Spatial and Temporal Scales Coupling in Reactive Flows

چکیده
We investigate the eigenvalue spectrum of the one-dimensional laminar premixed flame in a reactive mixture described by detailed mass-action kinetics. All the physical scales, spatial and temporal, inherent in a reacting system are accurately identified via eigenvalue analysis. The interplay between chemistry and transport is addressed via conducting a spectral analysis of the reactive flow structure. It revealed that reacting systems’ physical scales are coupled, the systems short wavelength modes are dominated by diffusion-based scales, coarse wavelength modes are dominated by reaction-based scales, and modes near a cross-over wavelength have scales dictated by a combination of reaction and diffusion effects.

Numerical Simulation of Reactive Flow, SECOND EDITION
Reactive flows encompass a broad range of physical phenomena, interacting over many different time and space scales. Such flows occur in combustion, chemical lasers, the earth’s oceans and atmosphere, and stars and interstellar space. Despite the obvious physical differences in these flows, there is a striking similarity in the forms of their descriptive equations. Thus, the considerations and ...
متن کاملOn the Coupling Between Length and Time Scales in Reactive Flows
We discuss one-dimensional steady laminar premixed flames in a mixture of calorically imperfect ideal gases described by detailed kinetics and multi-component transport. The required spatial discretization to capture all detailed continuum physics in the reaction zone is determined a posteriori and estimated a priori. Application of the method to laminar premixed flames in several mixtures over...
متن کاملEffects of coupling on turbulent gas-particle boundary layer flows at borderline volume fractions using kinetic theory
This study is concerned with the prediction of particles’ velocity in a dilute turbulent gas-solidboundary layer flow using a fully Eulerian two-fluid model. The closures required for equationsdescribing the particulate phase are derived from the kinetic theory of granular flows. Gas phaseturbulence is modeled by one-equation model and solid phase turbulence by MLH theory. Resultsof one-way and...
متن کاملRelationship between topography, land use and soil moisture in loess hillslopes
The relationship between topography, land use, and topsoil moisture storage is investigated for a small catchment with undulating deep loess hilslopes in the south of the Netherlands. For a period of 10 months, soil moisture profiles have been measured weekly at 15 locations throughout the catchment. A Generalized Additive Model was employed to find relationships between the various factors inf...

The variability of temperature and precipitation is regarded as one of the main characteristics of the climate.Precipitation and its results, especially results such as droughts, vary on different temporal and spatial scales. Thepurpose of this paper is to determine the frequency of the inter-annual variability of the driest month in north-westIran. In order to obtain the best results, we used ...
